“Creative Minds Therapy is a therapeutic approach primarily used to help children explore their lives and freely express repressed thoughts and emotions. The power of play therapy lies in its ability to tap into children’s innate ability to express themselves through play, which can be both healing and growth-promoting.”

What is Creative Minds Therapy?

Play Therapy for Children

(ages 4 to 12)

  • Child Centred: At its core, play therapy is child-centred. It provides a safe environment where children can play out feelings, explore relationships, and make sense of their experiences.

Therapeutic Power: Through play, therapists can help children learn more adaptive behaviours when there are emotional or social skills deficits.

Communication Tool: The toys and games are their words, and play is their language. It allows them to communicate without the pressures of adult-like conversation.

  • Emotional Development: Helps children express and process their feelings.

Behavioural Change: Encourages the development of decision-making and responsibility for behaviours.

Resilience Building: Strengthens coping mechanisms and adaptive skills.

  • Play therapy is beneficial for children experiencing a wide range of social, emotional, behavioural, and learning problems, including:

    Post-traumatic stress

    Conduct disorders

    Anxiety

    Depression

    ADHD

    Autism Spectrum Disorders

  • Play therapy harnesses the natural way children communicate. It is a powerful tool for addressing cognitive, behavioural, and emotional challenges. Professional play therapists can guide children through their most troubling times with the gentle power of play.

Creative counselling for Adolescents

(ages 12 to 18)

  • Eclectic Approach: Creative counsellors do not adhere to a single therapeutic model. Instead, they draw from a wide range of approaches, including Integrative, Person-Centred and Psychodynamic. This flexibility allows them to tailor the therapy to each client’s unique needs.

Process Over Perfection: Contrary to common misconceptions, clients do not need to be creatively skilled. The focus is on the process of creation, not the final product.

Subconscious Healing: Creative approaches work at a subconscious level, making them effective even when clients are not consciously aware of the problem. Whether it’s painting, moulding clay or using figurines in a sand tray, the therapeutic impact lies in the act of creation.

  • Enhanced Communication: For those who struggle to express themselves verbally, creative activities provide an alternative channel for communication.

Deeper Exploration: Clients can delve into issues that may be hard to put into words. Whether it’s anger, grief, or complex emotions, creative therapy allows exploration beyond the surface.

Holistic Healing: By integrating creative processes, clients engage their minds, bodies, and emotions. This holistic approach promotes healing on multiple levels.

  • Creative counselling is suitable for a wide range of individuals, including those dealing with:

    Trauma and PTSD

    Anxiety and Depression

    Relationship Challenges

    Self-Exploration and Personal Growth

  • Creative counselling invites clients to step outside the confines of language and embrace the transformative power of creativity. Whether it’s painting, sculpting clay or creating worlds in the sand, these expressive acts become bridges to self-discovery and healing.

I work with Barnardos

After further educating myself in Play Therapy (Pg Dip) & Creative Counselling for Adolescents I became a contractor for Barnardos. Through this position I have worked with various schools providing Play Therapy services to students.

I have considerable experience working with children who have experienced a vast array of trauma. As part of this role I have also worked alongside Child (Social) services and provided support where required.

“Ginny has been supporting children in our school for a number of years. Her caring and nurturing approach has proven successful in supporting our children to explore and process their traumas and significant areas of need. The relationships she builds, alongside the quality therapy she delivers, has been exceptional and enabled the children she visits to become confident, resilient, more able to focus in school and the ability to cope with the difficulties they have or are facing. I unreservedly would recommend Ginny and her play therapy to support a child in need.”

TESTIMONIALS

What people say about me

“It is unbelievable the work you have completed with [confidential] and have given back a young boy his freedom to express himself...to play...to not fear the past and not let it shadow over him.

you must be so proud of [confidential] and yourself. Extremely well done Ginny.”

Client - Kim Tayler

“Ginny came highly recommended from a friend and our 11yr old has been working with her for a few months now.

Our son looks forward to his session every week and has really formed a trusted bond with Ginny, who has taken her time to gain his trust and boost his confidence in the process.

The change in our son is noticeable already although he still has some way to go, but Ginny has already equipped him with the tools to help him on his therapy journey.
I look forward to the review sessions with Ginny as they are so informative without breaking the confidentiality she has with our son. These review sessions allow us to support our son in new and creative ways in which he will respond well to.

We as a family cannot recommend Ginny and her expertise highly enough. She has helped us immensely!”

Ginny was an absolute life-saver when I felt like I was drowning and didn’t know where to turn, to help my 6yr old Son, who has autism.

We had a consultation and she listened with an empathic ear.

It turned out we wouldn’t be able to work with her due to us moving, but she stayed on the phone and answered all my questions and gave me tons of resources to help me on the next part of our journey.

I wish we could have worked with her as I’m sure my son would have benefitted massively (and me too!) ❤️

I hope we find a PT as supportive, passionate and understanding as you

Thank you
